Solar PV

What is Solar Pv and How does Solar PV work?

A Solar PV system uses energy from the sun to generate electricity. It doesn’t need sunlight to produce electricity, it only needs good daylight, even in winter. So you could help to lower your bills by reducing the amount of electricity you need from your supplier.

With Solar PV, not only could you save money by generating your own electricity, you could also benefit from the Government’s  ‘Feed in Tariff’. This is where the government PAY YOU to make electricity from your Solar PV system regardless of what you use during the day.

Go Green Solar Energy Systems offer Solar PV installations throughout Leeds and Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

A Solar PV panel consists of cells of one or two layers made from a semi-conducting material like silicon.

When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers, causing electricity to flow.

The electricity flows through a cable and is collected at a central point often located in your roof space.

The electricity is then converted from a direct current (DC) to an alternating current (AC) and carries on into your home for you to use.

If you don’t use all the electricity that you have generated it will be fed into the National Grid automatically. With our dedicated installation team we will explain and educate you, our customer, how to benefit most from your system.

Are Solar PV panels suitable for your home?

To find out, start with our checklist . Then get some expert advice by calling our renewable energy team on; 0845 47 47 563

1. My home already has a metered electricity supply.

2. I own the freehold of my property.

If you own a leasehold property, you’ll need permission from the freeholder.

If you rent your property, you’ll need written permission from the landlord.

3.  My property is not a basement or mid-floor flat.

These types of property are unsuitable for solar panels.

4. My property is not a listed building, nor is it in a conservation area.

You don’t need planning permission for most home solar technology systems, but check first with your local planning officer, especially if your building is listed, or is in a conservation area or World Heritage Site. If you’re unsure, give us a call.

5. I have an un-shaded roof space facing between east and west through south.

Heavily shaded or north-facing roof spaces are unsuitable for solar panels. Call us if you’re not sure.

If you can say yes to all of these points then your home may be suitable for a solar technology system.

If you would like to discuss this further or have a query about the checklist, please call 0845 47 47 563.
